Acrosome
First introduced: Grade 9
a cap-like structure derived from the Golgi apparatus, covering the anterior (front) portion of the nucleus. It contains hydrolytic enzymes (including acrosin, hyaluronidase) that will be released to dissolve through the zona pellucida of the egg during fertilization.
